From the Rough

Ulverstone Golf Club held their 2019 men’s Club Championship over the last two weekends of October. A strong field of forty-four players contested the 72 hole event, which was finally won by Craig Walker after a six hole play off against Cameron Allen. Defending his title after having won in 2018, Walker went into the final round four shots clear of Allen just needing to play to his handicap. Unfortunately, this was not to be, and he could only manage a final round of 81. Cameron Allen kept his nerve and managed to finish on a four round total of 309 tie with Walker. Around thirty spectators followed the very exciting sudden death playoff over a short course of holes 8,9 and 10 took place to separate the two players. It took six holes and going around the short course twice before Walker held his nerve to make par on the par 3, 9th hole, after hitting the green with his tee shot and Allen missed the green with his tee shot.

A Reserve was won by Malcolm Wells on 72 hole total of 345. Having started the final round three shots behind Brent Melhuish, Wells managed to win by one shot. The B Grade played over 36 holes was won by Paul Kubank on 182 from Robbie Thompson on 184. Tony Bennett won the C Grade convincingly shooting a two round total of 183 from Wayne Blades seven shot back on 190. The 72 hole net was won by Alex Smith on 295.
