From the Rough



Caleb Webster, former junior member of Devonport Country Club has just completed his first year of a three year traineeship as a professional golfer and he has done it in style. When receiving his results this week he was advised that he came third out of a group of seventy five trainees nationally in the academic side of his exams. The module covers coaching, game development and business management which he received distinctions in and small business. Nineteen year old Webster started his traineeship at The National Golf Club, Cape Shank on the 1st January 2019 under the Director of Golf Craig Funch and clearly has a great future ahead of him.

One Hundred and seventy six players took part in the Veterans Annual Golf Tournament at Devonport Country Club last Tuesday. Playing either in the morning round or the afternoon round, players were treated to fantastic catering by the ladies Section putting on a two course lunch.


The weather was perfect, and this showed in the scores. The outright winner of the event was Greens Beach golfer Wazza Wilson scoring a very creditable 42 points. Division one was one by Frank Pfundt on 40 points counting out Geoff Walker also on 40 points. Division two was won by local doctor Suren Naiker also on 40 points from Adrian Sade. Nearest the Pin winners were Ken Wright on the 5th hole, Wazza Wilson on the 9th, Doug Johnson on the 10th and Greg Lawler on the 14th. The straightest drive was won by Greg Williams with Adrian Slade winning the placed drive.



Club Round Up

Burnie Golf Club: Held there annual Christmas Ambrose on Saturday. Winners of the event were Nathan Wescombe, Gary Cross, Brody Knight and Scott Leary on 54.5 from Leon Clarke, Ben Clarke, Aiden Templar, and Clay Archer on 55.625.


Penguin Golf Club: Monthly Medal was won by Lindsay Stonehouse on a great score of 62 from Benny Wells on 67. The Gold Medal was won by Scott Green on 68 after a count back from Ian Tobin.


Seabrook Golf Club: Held an 18 hole Stableford which was won by Brad Poulter on 40 points from Noel Bourne and Ron Philpot on 39 points.

11th and 12th January 2020 – Subway Morcom Cup, Champion of Champions and Ladies 36-hole Stroke. Entry forms have already been sent to all clubs in the State and Entries can also be made by sending an email requesting an entry form to manager@devonportcountryclub.com.au
