While playing in the recent North West Championships at the Devonport Country Club, Lain Thorn scored a Hole in One on the newly re-developed 10th hole, using an 8 iron.
The hole is now somewhat shorter than in the past, due to the building of three bowls greens around the southern and eastern boundaries of the hole as part of the County Club development. There are also additional bunkers surrounding the green, which is slightly smaller than before.
Two long standing members of the club, Kay and Graeme Hull offered a financial reward for the first club player to make a hole in one on the new 10th hole and last Wednesday, Kay Hull presented Lain with her award and a Hole in One trophy.

As promised last weekend’s Claremont Shield and Eric Bourke Memorial teams event held at the Devonport Country Club proved to be a great success.
After the first round of foursomes played on Saturday afternoon, hosts Devonport Country Club found themselves leading the Claremont Shield by one shot from Kingston Beach with Launceston, Royal Hobart and SMGA all a further shot back. However, on Sunday this all changed once the singles were under way. Royal Hobart ended up the eventual winners of the Shield. The lads from Seven Mile Beach won the club’s ninth title by a massive 15 strokes from tournament favourites, Wynyard. A trio of clubs including Devonport, Launceston and Ulverstone finished tied for third place.
