This major ladies' event was held from February 6th to 10th beginning with the Ladies Foursomes Championship which was won by our own Lu Proud and her partner from Smithton Jackie Poke. Congratulations to Lu as this was her 17thwin in this event, albeit with different partners. Lu Proud and Jackie Poke are pictured below.
Other Devonport Country Club members were also successful in several events. Lain Thorn was the leading qualifier heading into the match Play section and won the North West
Division 1 Championship in a 36 Hole Match Play-Off and Pam Hine the Division 3 Championship and the 36 Hole Gross.
Steph McCoy won the Division 2 Gross and Nett.
Wendy Beaton was the winner of Day 1’s 18 Hole Nett and Bev Naiker the Division 2 while Lain won the Day 2 18 Hole Division 1 and Steph McCoy Division 2.
Devonport brought home the Carmie Conroy Cup for the club with the best three nett scores over the 36 holes – Kylie Flack, Steph McCoy and Lain Thorn – pictured right.
In the Men’s NW 36 Hole Championship held concurrently with the ladies, Devonport’s Josh Molendyk and Joel Lunson were most successful.
Josh was runner up in the Men’s Championship, and a close second in the 2nd 18 hole Scratch. He also won the 2nd 18 Hole Nett scoring 68 from Jonty Lunson 69.
Jonty (pictured left) won the Open Handicap from Josh as well as the 36 Hole Junior Nett. He won the 1st 18 Holes nett with a 67 and the second with a 69.
Congratulation to all our golfers who entered the Championships and to the course staff for their excellent course presentation. The staff received many accolades from all competitors though some found the speed of the greens most challenging.
