Devonport Lady Golfers toast Gwen Glen’s recently installed Memorial Seat.

Golf Australia - Tasmania’s Golf Development Manager Simon Weston organised three sessions of After School Golf at Ulverstone, Devonport and Seabrook Clubs last week. Many children and their parents/grandparents arrived at the clubs to avail themselves of this invitation and ‘have a go’ at golf. Several club members were on hand to assist the organisers.

Children were given a clinic in basic swinging the club and putting prior to going onto the course for two short course holes to try out their new skills.

All participants really enjoyed the experience with some very good shots played. All children were given information about the various weekly junior sessions held at each club and we look forward to seeing many of these youngsters on our courses in the future.

The Clark Windows men’s pennant roster reached the half-way mark on Sunday and ladders are starting to take shape. With only four games in divisions 1, 2 and 4C Wynyard, Burnie and Ulverstone have won both of their games in their respective divisions. In division 1 Ulverstone took advantage of their home course to record a solid 6/1 win over Devonport with Craig Walker and Brady Ludbey leading the way. The division 2 clash saw Ulverstone defeat Thirlstane 5/2 but the individual results were much closer in this game. The same teams met in 4C with Ulverstone winning 6/1 and opening up a break at the top of the ladder.

In division 3 Seabrook are undefeated after its 4/3 win over Smithton and have taken top spot from Penguin which went down narrowly at home to Wynyard with Jack Emmerton and Eli MacDonald the only players to win convincingly for their sides. Despite the 5/2 score line at Thirlstane, Devonport was pushed all the way with six of the matches finishing between the 17th and 21st holes. Mitch Febey was the exception with a 7&6 result.

Damien Hoiberg was the stand-out in Wynyard getting over Devonport in 4A to remain undefeated and young Aidyn Bryan was the biggest winner in Port Sorell’s win over Smithton to open its account and give each of the other team’s one win. The West Coast team had a solid 5/2 win over Sheffield at Strahan in 4B and Penguin moved to the top of the ladder with a 6/1 win over Seabrook which was much closer than the final result indicates.

In the Alpha Electrics women’s division 1 pennant Smithton took over ladder leadership with a 4/1 win over Ulverstone Black, its fifth consecutive win. Thirlstane’s 3/2 over Ulverstone Red moved it level on points with its opponent and with a game in hand leaves Red in danger of missing the finals. Thirlstane hosts Smithton on Sunday in a game that could well decide the finalists.

A reminder to all those ladies wishing to try golf that Darren Spencer will start another popular “Swing Fit” program from April 28th to 16th June, 1.00-2.15pm Enquires Darren Spencer on 6427 2068.

Darren will also be running junior clinics on the same dates from 2.30pm to 3.30pm for all boys and girls.
